C+G's Sustainable Approach
Our commitment to linen:
First and foremost, our company is exclusively committed to linen products. Linen is a natural material and is one of the most sustainable fabrics you can find. It comes from the flax plant, which uses far less precious water resources than is needed to produce the same amount of cotton, for example. There are also multiple by-products made from the flax plant, which ensures there is no wastage. It’s a very impressive plant!
Raw material from local farmers in Normandy:
Importantly, the flax in our products is organic, so it doesn’t use nasty chemicals. It is grown in Normandy, a region in northern France with favourable Growth Degree Days, temperatures, rainfall patterns and other suitable climatic conditions for growing flax naturally.
Dying our linen to create beautiful colours:
We made a conscious decision to design with quality and health in mind, so no formaldehyde is used to set our dyes - meaning less toxins for your body. However, this also means that our dye isn’t as firmly set as other brands, so we recommend drying your linen in the shade after washing to ensure the colour does not fade. Our dye factory is owned by the same family as the one where our linen is cut and sewn, and we remain in close contact with them throughout this process.
Manufacturing process and certifications:
Our processing proudly complies with the Global Organic Textile (GOTS) 5.0 certification, which is a standard to ensure the organic status of textiles from harvesting of the raw materials through to manufacturing the final products in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. It is very important for us to credibly assure the human-ecological safety of our products from all stages of production. We have also visited the manufacturing factory and met the team there, which helps us fully appreciate the time and effort that goes into making every single piece.
Our packaging:
Packaging is an important part of our product, too. Each item must be packed in something sturdy to ensure it arrives at our customers’ homes safely. We pack all orders in 100% French linen carry bags which can then be used to store your linen - meaning they can be reused rather than being thrown away. For the postal mailers, we have recently transitioned into using compostable bags called Hero Packaging. We know that 90% of plastics end up in landfills, and in that environment they turn into methane which is a deadly enemy to our planet. So, we decided to invest in specialise mailers that are 100% compostable and will break down with no waste. We are proud to only use reusable linen bags and compostable mailing bags in our packaging. We hope others follow suit and say no to harmful plastics!
